Last time we had to
bail early so we just had to do the trip again! Just after the point
where we climbed out last time was probably the highlight of the trip
with overhung abseils into thin deep slots filled with freezing water.
We only had one minor mishap where I threw the rope into a pool only
to see it disappear into the murky depths (aren't they supposed to
float??). Thanks to Peter Heyning the rope was finally rescued.
Despite being a bit late in the year the trip was one of the best
I've done in a while. After the last abseil we kept walking right down
until
we joined up with the Chandler River before walking up the south ridge
which is much more pleasant than the previous climb out. From start
to finish it is about 600 meters vertically.
Permission is required to access the gorge.
