George Orwell writes in
Animal Farm:

"For once Benjamin consented to break his rule, and he read out to her what was written on the wall. There was nothing there now except a single Commandment. It ran:

"ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS

"After that it did not seem strange when next day the pigs who were supervising the work of the farm all carried whips in their trotters."

The following is the text of an email forwarded to me by a contact in the Maldives. It is unsigned and appears to have originated from a certain Ahmed Thaufeeq <a_thaufeeq@yahoo.com> on Thursday, September 20, 2001 8:50 AM. If it is from another source I beg to apologise to Mr Thaufeeq. The mail seems to be addressed to me in many places, but the author overlooked sending it to me. It was sent to a Maldive newspaper and copied to six other email addresses in the domain dhivehinet.mv, including another Maldive newspaper. The subject line of the mail reads Majids Clings and Claims to Royalty

Here we go again . aristocrats, seedis and sittis rise and reach up to your true titles!

Weak or strong, clever or simple, we are all brothers. No animal must ever kill any other animal. All animals are equal.

George Orwell:
Animal Farm

Majid Abdhul Wahhab has demonstrated the essence of what lies within some people who believe in the forgone aristocracy of the Maldives. Their belief in ethnic superiority is appalling. Some still feel that glories of genealogic ancestry will suffice requirements of contemporary Maldives, a country that is reaping benefits of a secure development program.

Phoenix rising from the ashes

"The bird of wonder dies, the maiden phoenix,
Her ashes new create another heir,"
Shakespeare in
King Henry VIII

Competing in a fair, democratic, corruption-free election

Thank you Majid! You indeed, have won. You won, without contest or competition, the status of architect for attempting to renovate Maldivian Royalty from ashes and confirming to the world of the web, how disastrous it would be if you and the likes of you had continued to thrive at the upper rungs of today's independent Maldives.

Batteli-kolhu: Royal yacht of the King of the Maldives: 1954. "...ah those wooden seats!
super luxury!"

Take a deep breath and read more and adjust your lenses to reality. "in the Maldives, all the aristocratic families were intermarried to an extend that would seriously alarm many geneticists," writes Majid in his family History. Why did they intermarry, I can almost hear you question yourself. Yeah, yeah, just in case their royalty trickled down to lay persons! Majid and his aristocrats would die before they married someone below their obsessive clings to royalty. They would rather live with genetic defects due to in-breeding and continue to ridicule and rebuke non-aristocratic ordinary people! I wonder why Majid failed to mention this, their favorite pastime until now.

Truly, we are thankful to Almighty Allah for blessing us Maldivians to accept the worth of each and every person and shrug off discrimination. We are truly thankful to almighty Allah for blessing us with the strength to live as equals among equals.

"Gone are the days that Maldivians bent double in front of other human beings"

Let's get real Majid! We're in the twenty-first century. Gone are the days that Maldivians bent double in front of other human beings. Gone are the days when innocent people rewarded service in repayment of ridicule and humiliation. Today, we are in the Maldives cherish humanity, embrace intellectual excellence and above all, glorify our faith to Allah.

Let Majid and his advocates embrace their atrocities elsewhere. Let them stay away from the serenity of our shores.

Insha Allah

Below are two European web sites on the subject to which the author of the email takes exception so emotively. It is gratifying to know that possibly I am not the only offender against the author's sensibilities. If there was a victory then surely it was not won without a contest!

Fate of other "Arrogant" Royals in History

Marie Antoinette Bourbon
Queen of France

Marie Antoinette was accused of passing military secrets to the enemy. On January 21, 1793 her husband King Louis XVI was convicted and executed on the guillotine. Ten months later she was executed on the gillotine, without proof of the crimes for which she was accused.

Nicholas II Romanov
Czar of Russia

On July 17, 1918. Czar Nicholas II, his consort Empress Alexandra and their family were lined up against a wall, for a family portrait, their Bolshevik captors said. Instead, a firing squad burst into the room and opened fire. The firing squad used bayonets to finish them off.

Charles I Stuart
King of England

Religious and economic issues added to the differences between the monarchy and Parliament. Following the Civil War, Charles was put on trial for treason; the tribunal, by a vote of 68 to 67, found the king guilty and ordered his execution by beheading in 1649.
