'By Degrees': Your comments are invited
'By Degrees' sets out for the first time proposed national benchmarks for Honours degrees in archaeology in Australian universities. The document, drafted by a representative working group of all the institutional providers of archaeology education in Australia , many of whom also represent key professional associations, is offered here in draft form for comment.
By Degrees ( 207k)
The proposed Australian benchmarks (pp. 14-16) focus on the four-year degree program because this is regarded as the fundamental level of achievement required for entry to higher degree research and to archaeology as a profession. Over the complete course of their degree, students should expect to attain successive levels of proficiency until they achieve the full range of subject knowledge and skills upon completion of their fourth year.
We invite written feedback on the draft benchmark statements. Please send any comments directly to me at: cclarke@une.edu.au by February 15 th .
'By Degrees' is one outcome of the educational project, 'Benchmarking Archaeology Degrees in Australian Universities', for which support has been provided by the Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education Ltd, as well as the Australian Archaeological Association. The project Grant Holder is Wendy Beck. Catherine Clarke is the Project Officer.
