I was looking for a specific way to represent a camp that would indicate that it was one that belonged to the Spartans. In Nick Sekunda's book on the Spartan army there is a colour plate illustrating the dokana, which was carried by the army and assembled when the camp was established. So having discovered an appropriate motif it was just a matter of constructing it.
The base is a piece cut from a cork tile that has been flocked in my usual manner. The walling is something that I came across in my bits box that has been painted to represent decaying walls. Kitty litter rocks were used to help support the dokana. The dokana started life as a piece of 3mm MDF. The shape was drawn on to it and the area not needed was cut off. It took about 3 attempts to cut out this shape without it snapping. There are meant to be 2 uprights between the 2 cross pieces. However, by attempting to represent these 2 uprights I kept breaking the uprights. So I compromised and only represented 1 upright.
