An Orchard
Mark and I were discussing what type of scenic representations we could develop for the project. As we had already decided on a vineyard we thought that an orchard would be a suitable piece of scenery. So this is what our orchard looks like.
Materials
Cork tile
8 Apple Trees. The ones I used are made by LifeLike and should be available from hobby and toy stores.
Fine sand and paints
Hot glue gun
PVA glue
Method
Construction
1. Using the cork tile for the orchard's base, cut out an appropriate size base (in this case 225mm x 150mm). Don't forget these measurements are for 25mm figures.
2. Next, the eight apple tress were glued to the base using the hot glue gun. Take some time and care over this operation as orchards are usually laid in orderly rows.
3. I then painted the base with a diluted solution of PVA and water and immediately covered it with sand. After about 30 minutes I shook the base to remove any unsecured sand. This was then coated with another diluted solution of PVA and water and left it to dry overnight. The construction phase is now complete.
Painting and Finishing
1. I painted the sand with dark brown. Once this was dried I dry brushed the sand with earth and then buff. For grassed areas I painted the sand NATO green followed by a drybrush with yellow-green.
2. Once all the painted surfaces had dried I then made the orchard's walls. I took some cork tile and cut it up roughly and hot gun glued it to the base.
3. The final task to do is to apply some flocking along the walls to represent weeds and other growths.
I hope that you like the finished product.
