Breeding for genetic change plays a major
role towards increased efficiency of animal production.
Skilled practitioners are required to
both determine optimal directions of genetic change and to design
and implement sustainable breeding programs.
These skills are largely based on a basic
understanding of quantitative genetics, statistical genetics,
breeding program design and genetic evaluation, with the additional need for a sound knowledge of
the prevailing farming systems and industry/market forces.
Armidale Academic Environment
Armidale is considered one of the top locations in the world for studying animal breeding.
Most of the teaching is provided by Genetics
